Vehicle Logbook Requirements
For vehicles previously registered in the Cayman Islands, the original DVDL logbook is required to complete the inspection.
Vehicles being registered in the Cayman Islands for the first time must pass a DVDL inspection before a new logbook can be issued.
Valid Insurance
Valid vehicle insurance is required to complete a DVDL inspection. Please provide proof of coverage showing the current policy number, as required by the DVDL.
Dry-Road Requirements
A road test, including a brake-performance test, is required as part of the DVDL inspection. For safety and accuracy, the roads must be dry and conditions must be suitable.
If it rains or road conditions are unsafe, the inspection will need to be rescheduled.
Window Tint
Your vehicle must comply with DVDL window-tint regulations to pass inspection. We cannot approve a vehicle with tint that exceeds the legal limits.
View the official DVDL tint requirements here.
Mechanical and Safety Requirements
Your vehicle must be mechanically sound and roadworthy to pass a DVDL inspection. The inspection includes, but is not limited to:
Tires and suspension
Exterior lights and warning lights
Brakes
Engine operation and performance
Mirrors
Seat belts
Fluid leaks
Horn
Exhaust system
Airbags, including outstanding Takata airbag recalls
Any other condition that could affect the vehicle’s safety or roadworthiness
Repairs and Parts
If your vehicle fails its DVDL inspection, all identified issues must be corrected before it can pass.
Previously, a vehicle could sometimes be approved while required parts were on order. This is no longer permitted. All necessary parts must be installed and repairs completed before the vehicle can receive a passing inspection.
Fee
DVDL inspection is free. There is no charge for this service. Pick up and delivery will be charged if requested. But the pick up and delivery will be covered if any other service is combined with a DVDL.
